There is a long time that I think to make the 3D version of the current Wings3D's logo created by gordo. I did it yesterday and today I did this wallpaper:

For the first time, I am scanning something (unfolded box with color graphics and text) to use as a texture. I want it to be high quality since it has text and I want it to be good for product rendering and not just for games....

What resolution (dpi) and what size (Width, Height) should I use?

Looking for tool to produce regulated relaxed variable frequency triangle mesh over character model.

The model is a human. The volume of the model is vary accurate.

I tried MeshLab but have troubles with all the remesh choices.
Especially because pop-up help pops up behind menus. YUK.

Anyway ... you know how sculptris and adaptive tessellation shows
just what I want ? Smaller triangles in areas of more detail.

I want to do that to a static mesh. No modelling. Just post processing.

Ran13 ... I'm waiting for you answer. LOL.

I would be great of the resolution was "dial-able". And behaviors predicatble.
MeshLab ... that sucka just crashed on me quite a bit during experiments.

How to export a selected loops as a polyline to RHINO ?

Assume I'm going to write code for this ...

I want to know what kind of file I should author for storing the polyline
in a format that lots of other apps might read.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Quick look at DXF and I wanted to barf ...
even if it was relatively simple.

Does your System support Moving Opacity in Proxy Mode?

I am curious about how many users have a computer that supports Moving Opacity in Proxy Mode (while in proxy mode the object maintains opacity while moving verts). I know that Fonte Boa and Deerwood do from their posts in the past. Please list Wings3D Version, Operating System and Video Card specs including OpenGL Version supported. The OpenGL Version can be found by Help > OpenGL Info.

Edit: Just to be sure it is clear what I am asking see the video here. Moving Opacity Video
There is a bug in Wings3d that prevents moving opacity from working in the first object created so to test you will need two objects in your scene and moving opacity will only work in the second object created. Even with two objects in a scene this will not work on my system.

I just got 16GB Ram for my HP Pavilion.

Scattered objects like a machine gun with Wings3D and MLAB and exported them in a streaming fashion so as to not blow out wings3D heap. 32 bit OS ... millions and millons of polygons exported to VOX Room.

Too bad all my ram slots are full and machine maxed out. I could go for 24GB.


All this ... and I probably should have bought Zbrush years ago, instead. That sucker istricked out with much less ram.

What app to use to TWEEK low-res cage onto high-res control surface ?

I want to "DECIMATE" a character and then TWEEK-REENGINER it but keep
tweeked verts on control surface which should be a smoothed out version
of a control mesh.

Something like taking a well modelled 20,000 poly character ...
and smooth it once or twice ... and then bring in another
low res version of same model ... and move it's vert around keeping them on the
smoothed surface.

Anyone got an app for that ?

Please advise.

3DCoat is maybe close in the AutoRetopo workflow ... but not doing exactly what I said ...
I don't think.

Is this a good product ? I know all you guys jumped on some $10.00 sale version
a year or two ago. I probably should have jumped in. I got burned on Hexagon 2.0 for
$25.00 ages ago, so I'm paranoid.

I would like a simple POINT and SHOOT app for doing TURN-TABLES with good lighting
and shaders and such and other features I can grow into and play with ... all for a cheap price.

I see the price is still at a homeowner/consumer level and still seems to be on sale even if not
a great price like $10.00

Anyone got any feedback ?

Did you notice this? It is an abandoned undertaking as it seems but it looks like a dedicated task from its very neat overall appearance. Having a very affordable simple voxel modeller wich can transform the voxel sculpts into a polygon mesh is a most needed thing still to this day. This here has a very clear cut working way on voxels but it seems that has not a way of unifying two or many different voxels and it has not a way of transforming the voxel shapes in polygons either... something that makes working on voxels useless in it somehow.

I dont have specific game interests, but since my kid entered an age in which "games" became part of his life,
i am considering the possibility to learn some 3d game engine, but this is completely new to me...

1. Since years i had interest in learning Director (previously Macromedia, now Adobe product)
because of the possibility to build graphical interactive products, not specifically games.
Someone can give me an idea about which are the products that rival Director?
Who are Director public, users universe? And if Diretor still lives strongly or if its future is not right?

2. Just last week (!) i saw for the first time the Unity 3d interface and i am impressed.
Someone can help me to know about its learning curve difficults? And about its consistence?  The 3d characters put on it
should be rig or the software offers tools for that? I have many doubts and maybe there is some user around ODF...
